About Us
Community Health Action Trust (CHAT) is justifiably proud of its long history as a mutual organisation within the voluntary sector. Throughout the last 10 years, our mission has been to provide our community with positive ideas and services that offer value for money, peace of mind, excellent communications and superior service. The Board believes our mutual status has served members well during this period and remains the appropriate structure to deliver our strategy and meet the expectations of members and the community at large.
William Gemegah (CHAT Director)
Who are we
Community Health Action Trust (CHAT) is a registered charity founded in 1992, in response to the growing care and support needs of African children and families affected (in Brent) by or living with HIV/AIDS. Service provision was later extended to Harrow African Communities and hence the name Community Health Action Trust (CHAT).
Mission Statement
"A healthy individual, a healthy community". We are committed to raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and the current raising rates of sexually transmitted infections (STI) focusing on how they affect the everyday life amongst the ethnic minority communities. The boroughs of Brent, Harrow, Barnet, Kensington and Chelsea have been targeted. We provide information and education on HIV/AIDS, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, hepatitis A, B and C amongst many other well known sexually transmitted infections.
Aims and Objectives
Our primary aim is to educate individuals from Black & Minority Ethnic communities on how to protect themselves, their partners and family from getting infections and how to cope and live with the debilitating effects of the infections. Where there is infection, we counsel, advise and support the individuals and family to address the issues. Where there is need for referrals, we facilitate referrals to places such as the local genito-urinary medicine (GUM clinics), Social Services and other partners.
Working in Partnership
Community Health Action Trust (CHAT) work along with other voluntary organisations some of which include: The African Child, HAAZ, Central Middlesex Hospital, Northwick Park Hospital, and Uganda Youth Support Group just to name a few. We also work along with the Brent & Harrow Primary Care Trust. We work with these organisations in partnership to develop services in response to the needs of local Africans in the borough of Brent & Harrow.
