 Training: African and Black Minority
African and Black Minority community member volunteers are recruited and trained to raise awareness on Sexually Transmitted Infectious Diseases e.g. HIV,amongst Africans in Brent & Harrow. Course contents: Epidemiology & Prevention, HIV Transmission, Local HIV Support/Services, Treatment Update, Diet/Nutrition and Care/Support for those living with AIDS related diseases.

The need for involving local church and community leaders in health promotion work was identified by this Project in 1998. These are very important and useful avenues for channelling health messages to Black Minority Communities. Culturally, Africans rely on church and community leaders for support counselling and advice. They hold such leaders in high esteem and trust as well as rely on information received from these leaders.

A programme to train local pastors and community leaders has been developed by CHAT on the following areas:
  • Importance of religion and culture in health promotion.
  • Networking with service providers (churches & statutory health staff)
  • Counselling & Bereavement.

"Congratulations on your excellent work in support of some of the most vulnerable people in the community. We all need to take responsibility for each other's health and well being. Excluding none, including all"

This is the project which has my full support Mr. Paul Boateng, former MP.
